The session

What it’s about.

Most of us have never met the person who grew our lunch. This is a working morning alongside local farmers — whatever the season needs doing: preparing beds, sowing, weeding, mulching, harvesting greens or picking vegetables. It's real work at a gentle pace, with the farmers explaining why they do things the way they do. Then the harvest goes into the kitchen.

What you’ll do

  1. 1A walk through the fields with the farmers: what's growing, what's next, how water and soil are managed
  2. 2Hands-on tasks for the season — sowing, transplanting, weeding, composting or harvesting
  3. 3Wash and sort the harvest together
  4. 4A farm-to-table meal cooked with what you picked
You leave with

A better sense of what a vegetable costs — in time, water and work.

  • Tools and gloves
  • A meal cooked with the day's harvest

FAQ

Usual questions.

It depends on the month. Sowing and transplanting after the rains, weeding and mulching through the growing season, harvesting when things are ready. We plan the morning around what the farm needs that week.
