The session

What it’s about.

Bamboo baskets, mats and winnowing trays are still made by hand across rural South India. This workshop teaches the basics of that craft: how bamboo is split into strips, shaved thin enough to bend, and woven into strong, simple patterns. By the end you'll have made a small piece of your own — a coaster, a small tray or a pen stand.

What you’ll do

  1. 1Know the material: why bamboo, how it's harvested and seasoned
  2. 2Splitting and shaving strips safely
  3. 3Learning two basic weaves
  4. 4Making and finishing your own small piece
You leave with

Your finished piece, and enough technique to keep practising at home.
